6th MATERIALICA Design + Technology Award 2008 Special Prize: MATERIALICA CO2 Efficiency Award
Munich, May 14, 2008: climate change and ecological damage are being exacerbated in particular by the industrial emission of carbon dioxide. "In Europe, we have undertaken to reduce global CO2 emissions by 20 percent by 2020, and even by as much as 30 percent if other CO2-producing countries such as the US collaborate," states German Chancellor Angela Merkel. MATERIALICA will be awarding the CO2 Efficiency Award for the first time this year, in order to support this aim and focus further attention on the issue.
Materials or light construction solutions offer the potential to make a major contribution to reducing CO2 emissions. Materials, products, surfaces, technologies and processes which demonstrably reduce CO2 pollution can be submitted for the special prize "MATERIALICA CO2 Efficiency Award". Reductions can be achieved, for example, by saving on the materials used in components or in cutting energy consumption during manufacturing or processing. But a conservational use of raw materials, recycling or a reduction in manufacturing steps can also make an active contribution to reducing environmental pollution. The winners of the CO2 Efficiency Award will be announced along with the winners of the MATERIALICA Design + Technology Award at an award ceremony held during the MATERIALICA trade fair. The award-winning product will be effectively presented to visitors throughout the fair by means of a specially designed display construction.
The MATERIALICA Design + Technology Award is to be awarded by MunichExpo Veranstaltungs GmbH for the sixth time now, on the occasion of the MATERIALICA – 11th International Trade Fair for Materials Applications, Surface Technology and Product Engineering (October 14 to 16, 2008 in Munich). Material developers and manufacturers, designers, product manufacturers and developers, and design engineers from the fields of materials applications, surface technology and engineering are invited to participate. The main focus here is on the fields of aerospace, automotive, mechanical engineering, sports and technical consumer goods. A brand new event, the innovative special prize "MATERIALICA CO2 Efficiency Award" is being presented for the very first time this year.
The closing date for entries to the MATERIALICA CO2 Efficiency Award and the MATERIALICA Design + Technology Award is June 30, 2008. Detailed participation conditions can be requested at www.materialicadesign.de.
